INTERNAL COMPETITION RULES
PLEASE READ ALL THE RULES AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY

I.      The competition will be of six rounds, consisting of Two Set Subjects and Four Open Subjects, spread over the Society’s programme. The Set Subjects will be announced around the date of the AGM.

2.     Prints and slides will be shown in the following sections: Prints Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Slides Intermediate and Advanced

3.     Members are allowed to enter only one section in each class. Members may not change to another section within the class during the season.

4.     Winners of the sections will automatically advance to the next section, however if a winning member approaches the committee, it may override that rule in personal circumstances.

5.     Any member may approach the Internal Competition secretary to request they compete in a lower section at the start of the following season.

6.     Entrants may submit a maximum of THREE prints and/or slides intc the section for which they are eligible, in each round of the competition. Only the top TWO scores will be eligible for the league table. In the event of two entries having equal lowest score the entrant must nominate which entry will not be used for that season

7.     No entry will he permitted which has been previously submitted or is indistinguishable from a previous entry in any previous round of any other Burton Photographic Society Internal Competition. With the exception of the nominated entry (see Rule 6) or lowest scoring image from a previous season

8.     Each section within the classes will he marked separately. Each entry will be given marks out of twenty. The top placed entry in each section on the night will be presented with a certificate.

9.     All the scores will be entered into a league table and the entrant with the highest aggregate score in each section after all six rounds will be awarded a trophy and certificate. The second and third placed entrants will be awarded a certificate. These will be presented at the Presentation Evening at the end of the season.

10.   Entrants must submit a minimum of EIGHT pieces of work into any eligible section of the competition to be able to claim the appropriate award(s) at the end of the season.

11.   Digital Imaging and manipulation by the use of computer technology will be allowed in any of the sections, providing the copyright of the original work or images can be shown to belong to the entrant, if requested. There will be no separate Section or sections for this work.

12.   The entrant must hold copyright of all prints and slides. In the event of any doubt the entrant must be able to produce the original negatives or transparencies for scrutiny.

13.   Only currently paid up members of Burton Photographic Society may enter work into the Internal Competitions.

14.   Titles for prints and slides are preferred. unless a particular competition requires or forbids them.

15.   All entries must be with the Internal Competition Secretary at least ONE week before each round. (Except in circumstances when the work is required by the External Competition Secretary and only by arrangement with all parties concerned).

16.   Prints and slides submitted to the Internal Competition Secretary may become available for selectiop for external competitions. unless the entrant contacts the Internal or External Competition Secretary and makes their objections known.

17.  The utmost care will be taken of all entries but the Society cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage.

INTERNAL COMPETITION SECTIONS

PRINTS
Prints may be of any size and mounted on lightweight board maximum size 50cm x 40cm (21” x 16”) with the exception of the Beginners section. (see under beginners) All prints are to be correctly marked with the entrants name, title of the image and which section ie beginners or intermediate or advanced

PRINTS HOME OR TRADE PROCESSED (Colour Or Monochrome) Beginners- Open to any member. Prints may be Mounted or unmounted
(any un-mounted prints will be displayed on a board for the judges to view on competition evening).
Intermediate- Open to any member
Advanced- Open to any member

PROJECTED IMAGE

Slides and digital images will be judged as one section.
How to present your images

DIGITAL IMAGES

All entries to be written to cd/dvd numbered 1 to 3 followed by the tiotle e.g:

1.great sunset
2. A cat
3. Trees

Image size to be no greater than 1024 pixels landscape edge by 768 pixels vertyical edge and saved as jpeg.

Do not include your name in the title, but please make sure that the CD or cover has your name on it.

SLIDES
All slides must be adequately mounted and correctly spotted
All slides are to be correctly marked with the entrant’s name, title of the
picture and which section i.e. I for Intermediate or A for Advanced.
Please avoid using sticky labels.
Dirty or badly mounted slides may be removed at the discretion of the
Competition Secretary.
Intermediate — Open to any member
Advanced — Open to any member

THEME COMPETITION


General Rules
Photographs on a related theme on any subject
Maximum of I set per author in each section. Only one title per entry is required (work with more than one title will have only one read out on the evening). Titles to be given to the organiser before the competition (see programme for date).
There will be no distinction between beginners, intermediate or advanced workers.
A trophy will he awarded to the best set in each section. these will be presented at the Presentation Evening Dinner.

Section 1 Set of 3 slides
Slides to be marked (L)eft (C)entre (R)ight as viewed on three projectors

Section 2 - Set of 4 prints
Prints to be marked with a presentation plan on the back of each print. Sets may be monochrome, colour or a mixture. Prints should be mounted on lightweight boards no larger than 20” x 16”
