Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. PAGB
The PAGB is the governing body for photographic clubs throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland. They arrange insurance for clubs and a personal “all risks” for camera equipment for individuals is also available. The PAGB produce the Alliance Guide and Directory, which lists all the approved Judges and Lecturers available in each of the Federations. The Alliance also runs competitions between the Federations, where work is chosen to represent a Federation or a club is invited or wins the right to represent a Federation. Look out the Inter-Fed Club Championships at Warwick University or Connaghs Quay being announced.
Midland Counties Photographic Federation. MCPF
The MCPF is one of 15 Federations, which comprise the PAGB.
The business of the MCPF is conducted by a Council, which meets several times a year. The chief aim is to assist clubs provide adequate an programme of instruction for their members through judges and lecturers. The MCPF holds General meetings twice a year and also an AGM to which member clubs are invited to send their own delegates to speak on their behalf. Anyone can attend these meetings but only the delegates are entitled to vote. A newsletter is also published twice a year, anyone can send photographic information or articles to be printed. A copy is pinned to the notice board for all to read. The MCPF also organises the following Exhibitions and Competitions which are open to all its member clubs
MidPhot - Exhibition of Midland Photography - held annually in March. enables individuals and clubs to enter prints and slides, in general and nature sections. There is also a creative panel section.
Entries into MidPhot are essential for the award of PAGB Photographic Distinctions.
Photofolio - is a competition between member clubs. Some acceptances in the exhibition form the basis of the circulating Portfolio of prints and slides, which is available to clubs on a prearranged circuit. The exhibition is held annually in June. See programme for when Burton will be showing this portfolio.
MCPF Print and Slide Championships - these are competitions between member clubs of the MCPF. The Championships help to find clubs to represent the MCPF in the PAGB finals of Prints and Slides.
The PAGB final for slides is held at Warwick University every July and the Print final is held at Connahs Quay every October.

Federation International de l’Art photographique -FlAP
FlAP Distinctions - there are 7 distinctions for photographic merit:
AFIAP - Artist FLAP EFIAP- Excellence FlAP
EFIAPIb - EFIAP bronze EFLAP/s EFIAP silver
EFLAP/g - EFIAP gold EFIAP/p - EFIAP platinum
MFIAP - Master Photographer FLAP
AFIAP - Applicants in prints or slides should have been exhibiting in FlAP approved exhibitions over a period of 5 years or more & should have received a minimum of 75 points where a slide acceptance = I Pt & a print = 2 Pt. 20% of the minimum should have been achieved outside the UK and to have used a minimum of 10 different prints or 20 different slides and to have achieved at least 2 awards.
EFIAP - a minimum of 60 acceptances since gaining AFIAP over a period of 3 years or more. 25% of which should have been achieved outside the UK. To have used a minimum of 15 new pieces of work since AFIAP and have received at least 3 awards. An award is taken to mean a Medal, Commendation, Diploma, Prize etc.

British Photographic Exhibitions - BPE
The crown award system is designed to enable successful photographers to gain additional recognition. Exhibitors are invited to aggregate their acceptances in the affiliated exhibitions and upon reaching the accepted aggregate they apply without charge for a Crown Rating Award. They will receive a certificate and ribbon and will be entitled to use the letters acknowledging their award after their name. i.e. BPE 1* or BPE 2* up to BPE 5~. Royal Photographic Society - RPS (www.rps.org)
The RPS holds regular seminars and exhibitions on various photographic topics throughout the country. They award distinctions and these qualifications are known world wide as measures of photographic achievement.
Licentiateship - LRPS - 10 prints or slides that are sufficiently varied to show good technical quality, understanding of the use of light, good print quality, variety of treatment and how to select the right view point.
Associateship - ARPS- 15 prints or slides. You have to show a high level of visual competence, good technical expertise. and sensitive use of light. composition skills and meaningful communication are all prerequisites. It recognises individuality and sustained ability in the following subjects:
Portraiture. Nature. Printing, Slide-Sound Sequences. Theatrical & Wedding. Journalism and Travel. Research.
Fellowship - FRPS 20 prints or slides. Demands distinguished ability in a specialist field. Your individual style should be clearly recognised and it should demonstrate excellent communication through your photographs.

Awards —
PAGB To apply for the following distinctions you must have entered MidPhot for at least 2 years over the past 10 years. Adjudications are held in Apr & Nov each year. Adjudications are carried out by 6 judges and award points between 2 to 5 for each piece of work.
CPAGB (Credit) Standard - Good Club Photography
10 slides or 10 prints a total score of 200 or more will gain the award.
DPAGB (Distinction) Standard - Open Exhibition Photography 15 slides or 15 prints a total score of 300 or more will gain the award. MPAGB (Master) Standard - Highest Standard of Amateur Photography 20 slides or 20 prints a total score of 450 or more will gain the award. APAGB - Awarded in recognition of a person who has given outstanding service to photographers belonging to member societies of the PAGB. They will have given their services for a period of not less than 10 years. Services may have been given in the capacity of a Federation Lecturer or Judge or as an organiser of a regular event at Federation, National or International level. |
